** If you are in Georgia ** help find vote manips-- snapshot your Facebook / social media

Last edited Tue Apr 18, 2017, 08:23 PM - Edit history (1)

The best theory on what Russia is doing on American elections is using voter rolls to purchase targeted ads on social media.
Many of those ads are targeted at Democrats, to suppress votes.
In November, we know false Facebooks ads were purchased to display to PA African American Democrats. The effort was to persuade them to stay home -- voter suppression.

Here is a suggestion that the same technique might be being used RIGHT NOW in GA-06:

To determine if this is true, DU can help! GA-06 voters are needed, because it is believed the voter suppression efforts have the names of every registered voter and are connecting those to facebook accounts.

To help:
- If you're in GA-06, look at what ads you're getting on social media, including Facebook.
- Take a screenshot (make sure not to get any data identifying you, just the ad).
- Upload to http://imgur.com/
- Post the imgur link in this thread.

It will be really interesting to see what ads are being purchased to target Democratic voters.

Does anyone with a real name ever tag you in pics or post on your timeline?

Do you use Facebook from your phone? (that gives them your phone number and your address, via phone GPS and wifi networks, which can be cross referenced against voter data).

Is your face ever in any pictures? FB (and all tech companies including Google and Apple) are doing widespread face recognition to identify users and their friends by face.

Edit: the title of this article is a little alarmist but it talks about face recognition. https://medium.com/@jitbit/facebook-is-terrifying-8dc4a016b64b
If you want I can look for a link describing the data FB gets from your phone.

check out your "Suggested Friends."

I had a ton of "People You May Know" with whom I had zero mutual friends, had never had any contact with them (not in my contacts, etc)...I had no idea who they were. I had no idea why they would be suggested to me. Eventually, I realized what it was: it was suggesting people who go to the same stores that I do. One of them was a barista at the Starbucks I go to by my house.

They also can track your browsing outside of Facebook. If you are logged in to your Facebook account (fake info or not), they ARE tracking where you visit. Have an Amazon account? Go browse Amazon for a few minutes and look at some obscure products, then refresh your Facebook and check out the ads.

One time a friend set up a completely new Facebook account with info he had never used -- different phone number, new email, fake name. Logged in, and it was already suggesting people he was actually friends with.

Facebook has an incredibly profile on you, even when you give it fake info.

Not the machines people vote on or tabulate votes. It's the laptops used for checking in prior to voting.

Voter suppression, gerrymandering, dirty tricks. That's how R's win despite the change in demographics that should dictate their defeat.

I just checked and voter registration is public record in GA and you can get a list of all registered voters for any county from the county board of elections.

So it would make sense that both parties should be using that data to target voter efforts.

Facebook allows some pretty targeted ads, but they don't allow you to target a specific individual anyway, so I still don't see how it means that anyone was hacked.

Facebook generally lets you target a person by location, age, gender and what that person like. So you could buy an ad targeting all 30-60 females in a town plus 5 miles away who also like the Obama 2012 page.

They don't ask for SSN or DL and it's no indication they have any of that to see an ad.
