Trump could repeal Davis-Bacon act setting minimum wage for construction workers on federal projects

It's been an unfulfilled dream for conservative Republicans for decades: repeal the Davis-Bacon Act.

Now, a quixotic remark earlier this month from President Trump has some GOP lawmakers wondering if the time has come to get rid of the law that mandates a set wage for construction workers on major federal projects.

Trump took everyone by surprise when he told The New York Times on April 5 that he was going to make an announcement about the Davis-Bacon Act in two weeks. “It’s going to be good,” he said, without offering any details.

That, coupled with the fact his proposed $1 trillion infrastructure plan might need some sweeteners to get full GOP approval, set the labor world on edge.

Trump's got no more authority than Obama. It was frustrating for many that Obama couldn't just enact a law.

Hurdles are hurdles. With a Congress that bears the same letter after the members' names perhaps he could convince them to repeal it. I don't see it as a given.

So many other predictions as to what was definitely going to have happened by now were utterly wrong I don't see any reason to continue to think that every negative prediction must be right. Sure, some will. It's bound to happen. At least once. I guess. Instead mostly I hear carping that Trump's not doing harebrained things that we feared he would do and would relish saying horrible things about.

And the bad things he does manage to pull off, even if we all agreed on the list, seem scattered and feeble.

You know, it's April, and I was guaranteed an economic collapse in March. Of this year.

Hungry and homeless, but happy they voted for a man who promised to MAGA.
