The secular, forward-thinking vision of Kemal Ataturk may be forever snuffed out with this vote..

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is seeking to replace the parliamentary system with an executive presidency.
Approval could see him stay in office until 2029.

Supporters say a "yes" vote would streamline and modernise the country; opponents fear the move would lead to increasingly authoritarian rule.

If passed, the new measures would amount to the biggest constitutional upheaval for the country since its foundation in 1923 after the demise of the Ottoman Empire.

They would cement Erdogan's grip on a country whose divisions have deepened since a failed coup attempt last July that ended with the deaths of more than 250 people and led to a the imposition of a fierce crackdown on dissent.
Erdogan said he believed Turks would vote with "common sense", adding: "Hopefully once the polls are closed and votes are counted, Turkey will march towards the future by making the expected choice."

Keep in mind, I'm no expert on Turkey so I could be WAY off base here. But from what little I've read, the military considers itself the guardian of Ataturk's legacy and is opposed to Islamism.

Strong early lead for 'Yes' vote in referendum to give Turkey's president supreme powers

Turkey's state-run news agency has said “Yes” votes are leading in Turkey's referendum on whether to grant the President sweeping new powers.

But the main opposition party, CHP, have said they will demand a recount of up to 60 per cent of the vote, claiming that 1.5 million "illegal" ballots were counted. The pro-Kurdish HDP also claimed they had information there was between three and four per cent voter fraud during the vote.

The “Yes” side took an early lead during vote counting and stood at more than 51 per cent with 99.86 percent of ballots tallied, The Anadolu Agency said.

That could happen. Trumputin's gang wants to flip the geopolitical map to the new superpowers (Russia, China, Turkey and Iran).
