I was watching the movie Too Big To Fail on HBO and there is a scene where the Chinese ambassador is at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing in the Summer of 2008 and he tells our Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson that they were discussing with the Russians whether or not to start dumping U S bonds and ultimately decided not to. Paulson's face became ashen.

That is why China has as much or more leverage over us as we have over them. If they start dumping American bonds on the market and/or refuse to buy more the cost of borrowing for us will go up. Of course it would hurt them too. It would be like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

and I've read that his total indebtedness is $600 million, so, my guess is that's the whole reason we don't see his taxes, and why he's dancing to Putin's tune.
