Spicer Issues Apology to GOP Megadonor Sheldon Adelson After Holocaust Blunder

by Ken Meyer | 11:21 am, April 12th, 2017

As part of his ongoing apology tour, Press Secretary Sean Spicer confirmed that he had a chat with Republican megadonor Sheldon Adelson about his Holocaust remarks during his Tuesday press briefing.

Politico’s Alex Isenstadt reported last night that he heard from Adelson spokesman Andy Aboud, who told him “Sean called shortly after and said he made a terrible mistake and apologized if he was offensive.” While Spicer declined to elaborate on the “private conversation,” he confirmed to CNN that a discussion did transpire with Adelson’s office.

Adelson, a billionaire casino mogul and GOP contributor, is known for his prominent pro-Israel donations and his seemingly close connection with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Adelson contributed millions of dollars to Donald Trump‘s presidential campaign, as well as his swearing-in ceremony.

The comments from Spicer have drawn outrage on multiple fronts, particularly among the Jewish community. The Anne Frank Center called Spicer’s comments an “evil” act of Holocaust denial, and Israeli Intelligence Minister Israel Katz demanded that the press secretary either apologize or resign.

Of course Spicer's comment was monstrously offensive, but his apologies should also be directed to the Anne Frank Center, the Holocaust Museum, and others who aren't rich contributors to the GOP.

internet poker is still illegal.

Lots of folks want to play internet poker, but because it will interfere with his profits, they cant.

Adelson is typical con business person, having billions is not enough, harming workers is not enough.

Online gambling is a horrible thing, that allows people to feed gambling addictions even easier than they already can and robs poor people of money they can't afford to spend with the lure of a way out of their economic predicament. I'm not going to lose any tears over the ban.

Not wrong from certain obvious aspects but sure as hell not part of a free democracy.

Gambling is an especially dangerous one (along with alcohol), because its legality already gives it a veneer of respectability not to mention glamor. I don't think gambling per se should be illegal though, any more than alcohol, but I think some restrictions are in order.

And I think its more than reasonable for example to restrict both from people below a certain age to ensure they are making a free and able choice. Having known a number of addicted gamblers, I don't think it can be prevented, but I think allowing them to freely gamble from inside their own homes is just likely to cause an awful lot more misery.

"Gee, I'm sorry you took offense at that."

Sean, you offended most of us with that bullshit. You owe an apology to a lot more than one fat Republican megadonor.

The American people get multiple misfires with his attempts to clarify each apology, but a "megadonor" gets a personal apology.

Meanwhile, 45 has nothing to say one way or other. Guess he was too busy with his delicious chocolate cake and dropping missile strikes.
