about rentals in the UK being used as pop up brothels, the workers moving on in a few days to another Air bnb rental in a circuit of the country.

Found it: http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-39528479

And it wasn't a bad experience, but not my first choice (company paid). When I travel, I prefer to stay at hotels over private accommodations.

If I ever vacationed for leisure (as opposed to work) I'd stay at a hotel over an AirBNB but that is also just me.

But when the owners/renters move out so you can use their space, it feels really creepy to me.

Both were 2 bedroom apartments owned by women. The one in Cuzco was acceptable ($55/night). The one in Lima (Mira Flores section) was fantastic ($85/night). I'd do it again in a flash.

it's more a short term places to stay for people on vacation or out of town for whatever reason.

yeah, there are issues with airbnb when it comes to discrimination.
