United Airlines Will Start Charging for Use of Overhead Bins

Remember your last flight when you told yourself that at least flying couldn’t get any worse? Well, it’s about to get worse. United Airlines will soon start charging some customers for the privilege to use the overhead bins.

United has announced a “new tier” of ticket, as the company calls it. The airline’s cheapest flights will now be called Basic Economy, and if you want to store something in the overhead bin, that’ll cost you extra. Passengers will be able to bring a carry-on that fits underneath the seat in front of them. But don’t even think about putting something above you. That’s for people who paid more.

Here is the shit for brains United Quote:

We are not implementing additional restrictions on our customers, or taking anything away from them. United has announced a brand new fare called Basic Economy that is an additional option for customers and that will be cheaper than our regular Economy fares. For customers that are interested in bringing a carryon, our regular Economy fare will still be available. Furthermore, customers who purchase a Basic Economy fare with their Chase MileagePlus credit card will still receive priority boarding in group 2, and will be able to bring a carryon bag to stow in the overhead bins.

Soon there will be a fee to piss in the head. Or as it is called for some reason I never understood, The LAVATORY!!

I love Southwest humor.

"If you're travelling with more than one child, first put the air mask on the one you like best. If you're travelling with more than three children...why?"

On Southwest, you can have two checked bags and a carry on. The website is super easy to use, and I've had several free flights from them.

for flights for our staff to attend upcoming trade shows. I'll take United off of the list. It is a drop in the bucket but that's 18 seats that they lost from our business. None of these a-hole corporations will care unless they're bottom line is affected.

9. I had my worst 'lost luggage' experience with United
Mon Apr 10, 2017, 06:18 PM

I flew them from Los Angeles to Lansing on a 'red eye' flight, once. They managed to lose my luggage when I changed planes in Chicago. Since there were several more flights from Chicago, I figured it would arrive within the day.

When it arrived in Lansing they called and said I could come by and pick it up. No, says I. Since I live in Flint, you can deliver it to me. So United said they would have their delivery service drop it off, later in the day.

Two days and MANY angry phone calls later, still no luggage, despite them insisting, several times, they had confirmed that it was on route. The delivery service actually called me to say they were on their way, but they never arrived. That didn't stop them from reporting to United that they had, indeed, delivered it, which made the situation even more irritating.

What had actually happened was that someone put it in the airport manager's office and it sat there for two days. Don't ask 'Where was the Manager?' Who knows. Probably lost. So, I was being lied to by both United and the delivery service since OBVIOUSLY United never gave the luggage to the delivery service, in the first place! Three days later, it finally arrived, along with a package of flight vouchers, and other assorted things to supposedly make my next flight, on United, more enjoyable. They also assured me that they had fired the delivery service. I gave the vouchers to a friend and haven't flown with them, since.

The term originates from Latin and means 'wash room'. You are correct; such amenities are reserved for those who have the means to afford it. The hoi polloi can just hold it.

Apparently not. In the not too distant future they will start charging for fresh air vs tainted oil air from engines.

tolerable. This unfortunately isn't a particularly surprising progression, sounds like it will keep getting more terrible..

If you are a man over 6 ft tall, there is just no room for your legs to fit comfortably the way these standard economy seats are laid out. Whenever I've flown recently I end up paying an additional $40-80 (it keeps going up), one way, to have what would have been a normal amount of leg room 20 years ago.

Flying from NYC to Incheon or Kansai or Pudong is just intolerable for me otherwise.

Even NY to Gardermoen, Schiphol, CDG, Lisbon ... ugh!!!

Only 6-8 hours, depending...

I used to be able to deal with something like SFO to JFK.. no longer..
