Colonel West- Ran his mouth all over the media against Obama for 8 years , no where to be found on TV now. Hope he stays where he is.

(31,261 posts)Afterall, he is a well connected Academic that doesn't have to worry about a job or livable income, he is a male that don't have to worry about reproductive rights, although he is Black it's doubtful that Cornell West have to worry about discrimination in employment or on the job, Cornel West is beyond military draft age, so he doesn't have to worry about dying in war. In summary, things are peachy for Cornel West, he would complain only if he had the character to worry about those in society that are not as fortunate as he is, I have seen nothing that says he has that level of character.

(63,212 posts)Is he still railing against the current president? Or did he change his tune for some reason once Trump took office?
What sage and thoughtful advice does Dr. West have to offer Herr Trump?

(63,212 posts)Now that you mention it, he does get a lot more air time when he furthers the "even black activists don't like Obama" narrative.

(4,377 posts)Regardless of whether or not people agree with his criticism of Obama (I think he takes it too far personally, and frankly we have much bigger concerns these days), he's always been an advocate for the downtrodden and the vulnerable. But like always, talking about the downtrodden and the vulnerable isn't anything the press consider important, when they can just highlight a controversy and pit people against each other.

(68,576 posts)West did not support the Democratic nominee.
He's a lifelong campaigner for equality and human rights. A genuinely good person who dedicates his life to trying to spread a message of love between all people. Yet suddenly he's a bad guy because he didn't vote Democrat one time?
Sometimes good people make mistakes. Sometimes good people just disagree about the best route forward. I'm really tired of this idea that if someone goes against the party line then they become the enemy. That's way too populist, anti-intellectual and downright Orwellian for my tastes.

(4,377 posts)He didn't endorse Trump (if he had then I might be more sympathetic to your viewpoint), but I really can't go along with this idea that unless people get on board with things they disagree with, they're responsible for something they never supported. First and foremost he answers to his conscience.

He also supported and endorsed Jill Stein and once called Trump an 'authentic human being' in a tweet...he is dead to me.

(12,448 posts)I'll never forgive him for his toxic remarks about President Obama or for his pushing a third party vote. He can go and do an anatomically impossible thing to himself.
