Trump Finds Respite in Military Actions

The struggling Trump administration, which is dealing with defeats in the healthcare and immigration areas, seems to have found its way out of impending doom. The Syrian bombing successfully shifted discussion away from the administration's incompetence and its Russian ties during the campaign.

Emboldened by this success, it appears that Trump is looking for other ways to use his power as Commander-in-Chief to further shift news and discussion away from his incompetence and toward concern about military matters in the Middle East and North Korea.

News this weekend about a build-up of US ground forces on the Jordan/Syria border and further news about a naval carrier strike force steaming toward the waters near North Korea promise to give Trump further respite from his political woes.

There's nothing like a bit of armed conflict to take the public's mind off other issues.

Watch for developments during the Congressional Easter Recess. What will Trump do next?

was successful for a while. Once that stopped working he had to look elsewhere. Bombing has now worked once. My fear is that he will have to continue to use warmongering to distract especially so long as pundits call him "presidential" for doing so. It's just a shiny new toy to him.

North Korea is next, I'm sure, and he'll botch that up bigly, no doubt. If he does decide to do something there, it could be much more if a disaster. Kim Jong Un is crazier and even less careful than Trump. It's a very dangerous situation and could backfire in a major way.

Trump's stupidity and willingness to act is very worrisome.
