the emergency sirens went off at 11:45 at nite for 15 minutes across the entire City of Dallas (North, South, East and west) on beautiful clear summer nite and sent the entire City of Dallas to twitter to ask whether we were being attacked by Russia. Went on for 15 minutes-oops I hear them again. Some one is trying to make a statement I believe

(58,949 posts)I know you said it's a clear night, but it's the only plausible explanation I can think of.

(111,286 posts)Plus, it runs the risk of "boy who cried wolf" syndrome, meaning people will ignore the sirens if something does happen.

From Dallas spokesperson Sana Syed, "I don't have a lot, but its a system malfunction and emergency folks are working on it as we speak."

the more and more rounds of this-the more I think this might be some hacking event-seems like it would be pretty easy to shut it down once it you knew it went off

(6,476 posts)Your video was exactly how it sounded across Dallas
---now there have been about 7 rounds of scattered sirens going on in the distance that seem to be shut down sooner rather than the first round that lasted for a good 15 minutes

(205,560 posts)DALLAS (KXAN) Reports are pouring in of tornado sirens sounding throughout the Dallas area, including downtown. Thats despite there being no storms in the area.
A city spokesperson says the sirens are going off due to a system malfunction and emergency crews are working to fix the problem. The citys Office of Emergency Management says there isno emergency and they are asking people not to call 911.

This is nuts.
Especially with us boomers who were trained to "duck and cover."

(19,204 posts)Not that "ducking and covering" would have helped one iota during a nuclear attack, but it gave everyone the illusion of a positive reaction to being obliterated by nuclear warheads. Ahhhhhh....memories of being a scared shitless youth.

(34,112 posts)I can sympathize. No matter how clear the weather the sound of those sirens make you feel odd. The deep seated feeling of having to be very cautious is hard on a person. I hope it stops soon for you because no amount of reassurance can take that feeling away, the only thing that can fix it is for it to stop.
Duck and Cover was bad but my first and longest memory are the tornado sirens.
