Advertisers virtually abandon O’Reilly in bizarre, truncated show
Welcome to the No Ad Zone.

On Thursday night, virtually all national advertisers abandoned The O’Reilly Factor, the nation’s top-rated cable news show. The program included just seven advertisements and was, without warning or explanation, cut 15 minutes short.

More than 50 advertisers have announced they will stop airing ads on the show this week
, following an explosive report in the New York Times that O’Reilly and Fox News had paid millions to five women who accused O’Reilly of sexual harassment. Even more advertisers appear to have done so without making an announcement.

Sometimes things pick up steam, the wave gets bigger and bigger even though we have known this about this douchebag for 15 years at least, but there is no stopping this tsunami.
My prediction? Trump will go on to try to save O'Reilly, but it won't work. He is done. Put a fork in him. Part of the backlash against Trump and sex offenders, IMHO.

Many of those fans are so called religious repub voters. If what we all learned about trump didn't turn them off, Bill won't either. They were promised the end of Roe v Wade and possibly that religious nut Pence as President. See what unity can do? When will we left leaners learn the lesson of sticking together to defeat the repubs?

But have you guys checked out the advertising on Faux in general?

OMG! The world is ending! Economy is getting ready to crash (again), worse even than '29. Quick! Buy gold and survival supplies! Food buckets.

It's just all paranoia all of the time over there.

It's like - you watch this shit and think, "Can people really be THIS stupid?"

What a hideous, depressing mind-set.

Anyway, if you cut the commercials out of a show that length, that's about the amount of time any show would run I should think.

I don't think I've watched more than ten seconds of Fox News in my life, literally, but I've heard about how their programming is fear-based. And fear makes people hyperreactive and full of hatred towards all that is other, and that all makes sense.

I didn't realize the advertising was just more of the same. Silly me, I just thought the advertisements would be, like, normal. Fox really has cultivated the perfect audience for their OMG OMG OMG all the time programming, haven't they?

Newsmax has a special way with Social Security

But you have to give them your credit card first.

https://www.truthinadvertising.org/socialsecurity211-com/

They are in the business of selling newsletter subscription and you'll have a really hard time cancelling to get them off your credit card.

https://mediamatters.org/blog/2013/07/24/hating-on-the-welfare-state-while-pushing-taxpa/195042

And the info they finally give you is available for free.

read this book she had been reading. All about the coming global catastrophe and how to prepare for it. Just her description told me it was junk. I don't argue with her about that stuff much. It was a "free" book btw.

A month or so later I see a $50 charge show up on our business bank account from Newsmaxx. I ask her what that was for and she had no clue. A quick online search confirmed what I suspected. A lot of people had been scammed the same way. For the "free" book, they need a credit card number for some reason. Then if you don't scroll all the way down and uncheck a box in the terms, you subscribe to Newsmaxx, a reoccurring charge of course. She got on the phone and got it reversed. She never said, but I bet that wasn't easy to finally get through and get it done.

What a sleazy way to do business. Says all you need to know about what they are worth. I wonder how many people are paying them $50 bucks a year, forgot all about it, and don't even use their site? They probably know exactly what percentage of people they hook that will keep overlooking that annual fee because they don't really look over their statements.

And reverse mortgages in another post. So help me God, I just receieved a letter telling me how much my house was worth and how much I could get in a reverse mortgage.

I would never think of falling for a scheme like that, but have to worry how many swamped with DOctor and drug bills, rising costs would think it is mannah from Heaven.

You know good and well Tom does not need that money. Fonzie did those commercials, too.

The sound of O'Reilly's sleezy, authoritarian, condescending voice has always given me chills. They are two of a kind. What a buffoon DT is to defend him.

The thing that gets me is that it will most Fox news watchers won't even know about it, because they don't watch or read other news, except even worse stuff, like Drudge or Glen Beck.

and should have been years ago. They gave him as much time as they could profit from ... and will continue to do so.

I'd say we need to keep the pressure on the corporations -- this isn't a one time effort, but the reality is there is only so much we as individuals can do consistently to resist the whole fucking cabal. We all have other responsibilities -- including the basic life tasks like eating, sleeping, working, etc., etc. It's frustrating.

Wish there were a better way to organize our mass resistance such that everyone could contribute consistently and effectively, but also with maximum efficiency.

talk radio is where oreilly, like hannity started. it does the groundwork repetition to make their racism sexism and ignorance acceptable for TV.

reducing rw talk radio from a protected PSYOPS/monopoly of 1200 think tank-coordinated stations down to maybe 100 - a true representation of market demand - would destroy fox for good and make the process of getting trump out and getting majorities in 2018 a lot easier.

one way to start that major shaming of advertisers would be to start protesting the 88 universities that support 257 limbaugh stations with sports broadcasting.
