The singularly most effective filibuster in the entire history of the US Senate

It began on March 16, 2016 when Merrick Garland's nomination was never brought to the Senate floor. Indeed, debate never began and most Republican Senators refused to even meet with him.

And today, as the GOPee enhances its stranglehold on any semblance pf comity in the Senate, we hear them citing Democratic partisanship as the reason for invoking the nuclear option.

How swell.

Don't believe this "Aw shucks, we didn't WANT to dismantle Democracy" baloney from the GOP. This has been the plan for ages.

They've been saying forever that they want a gov't small enough to drown in a bathtub. They've been looking for an excuse forever.

They have the mentality of serial abusers. "Don't make me do this!" followed by gaslighting about it never being their plan (it was!).

And all they can do is blame the Democrats who hold neither the presidency, nor the house, nor the senate, yet are somehow oppressive.

Right now they've got everything they ever wanted, and it's tearing them apart. Happily for them, it demonstrates that gov't doesn't work.

But the people who will suffer are the poor, POC, refugees, women, immigrants, LGBTQ, and at-risk communities. The GOP doesn't care.

Trump is a dream come true for the GOP. He can fail big in very public ways and everyone's going to watch it happen. Meanwhile the GOP rank and file has lined up to get all of their pet policy passed in order to secure ever more money from their lobbyists, and almost no one will notice while the big orange monster is blundering up ahead.

We've been living in the post nuclear apocalypse ever since the Republicans decided that President Obama was limited to a three year term as far as nominations are concerned. Resistance is not futile.
