To be fair, I never found gas prices as a good gauge of effectiveness of a President.

I know it's an easy thing to do because it's always something out there front and center, but gas prices are so volatile and contingent on so many external factors I find trying to tie them to Presidential policy nearly impossible.
There's a lot of better things to measure a President on.
Not apologizing for Trump here, just being honest. Gas prices were all up and down during President Obama's term too.

But if someone points out the price rise to Trump, he will find a way - any way - to blame it on President Obama.
