Weird primary in GA 6!!!! Who else does it this way?

I just learned that in the primary on April 18 ALL candidates from both parties run on the SAME ballot, so you could end up with 2 Republicans in the runoff. Do any other states do it this way????

This is the election where Jon Ossoff is running. Bush won the district by 67 to 31 (or something like that). But Trump only 48 to 47. An really, really good chance to flip a red district, and the primary is more important than I had realized.

Again, how common is this way of doing things?

Louisiana does it this way, too. It's how Louisiana ended up with a Democratic governor. ashtonelijah Apr 2017 #3
I don't think that is what happened in Louisiana. They had two choices in the final round. StevieM Apr 2017 #10

lots of places succumbing to the "both sides are the same" mantra and changing it so non party members vote in primaries.

They chose John Bell Edwards over the Republican.

The reason Edwards won is because Bobby Jindall was a total disaster as governor. Not quite as bad as Sam Brownback--but awfully close. Jindall did more damage to Louisiana than Hurricane Katrina.

They often end up with two Democrats in the General Election. I think it's weird, though, and prefer the multiple party primary system.

and have noticed that the candidates aren't saying much about their parties. They are "one of us" or "conservative" or
"someone who will fight for you" or "understands the threats we face as a nation". Jon says he's at 40%.

The list of Senate candidates this last primary was almost funny. There were something like 3 recognizable names along with 31 others listed just with a "d", "r" or a third party next to their name. I'm only exaggerating a little here - about the names with just a "d", "r" or third party. A few of them actually did include a brief bio/description.

It was strange to say the least. We ended up with what felt like a second primary in the GE with 2 of our democrats. Kamila Harris won just as she would using the old rules.
