MARCH 17: Vice President Mike Pence arrives for a joint press conference by U.S. President Donald Trump (not seen) and German Chancellor Angela Merkel (not seen) at the White House.
The Internet is on fire after an in-depth Washington Post profile of Vice President Mike Pence’s wife, Karen Pence. The article revealed that Pence explained, in 2002, that unless he is with his wife, he won’t eat alone with a woman or attend an event where alcohol is served, a spin on what evangelicals call the “Billy Graham Rule.” Twitter threads and think pieces have abounded. “Mike Pence’s ‘Billy Graham Rule’ has Internet yelling sexism,” blared a USAToday headline that could have read, but didn’t, “Mike Pence’s ‘Billy Graham Rule’ is sexist.”

What a luxury it is for a man to decide he can’t, and doesn’t have to, be unchaperoned in the presence of a woman who might be an evil temptress out to destroy him. And what a serious problem for women.

Religious Sexism. Sums it up.

he knows that his sheer animal magnetism is so great that no woman could control herself around him. He's really just doing us ladies a favor; just imagine what an embarrassing international incident would occur if he were to have dinner alone with Angela Merkel!

prevents him meeting one on one with female colleagues or superiors. That alone should disqualify him from government and most businesses.

Needless to say, I have absolutely no use for religious patriarchs who form gods in their own image and use them to bully women and children, especially women.

The funny thing is that all Pence's nuttiness only happened when he met his current wife, who was a member of one of those nutball Catholic churches that give the holy rolling Pentecostals a run for the zealotry money.

Unfortunately the same shit comes up here when people think violence is "understandable" against cartoonists who "blaspheme".

But isn't Pence Catholic? Why do I get a sense this story is BS to garner greater support from the evangelical base.

Pence was raised in a Catholic family, served as an altar boy, and attended parochial school.[27][255] He became a born-again Christian in college, while a member of a nondenominational Christian student group, and identified his freshman year—and specifically "a Christian music festival in Wilmore, Kentucky, in the spring of 1978"[256] referring to the Icthus Music Festival at then Asbury College in Wilmore—as the moment he made a "commitment to Christ."[27][255] After that point, Pence continued to attend Mass (where he met his wife) and was a Catholic youth minister.[255] Pence called himself Catholic in a 1994 news piece, although by 1995, he and his family had joined an evangelical megachurch, the Grace Evangelical Church.[27][255] In 2013, Pence said his family was "kind of looking for a church."[27] He has described himself as "a Christian, a conservative and a Republican, in that order," and as "a born-again, evangelical Catholic."[27][255]

I get the feeling he wanted somewhere even more conservative than the Roman Catholics.

What sane woman would ever want to be around Mike Pence for any reason on any occasion?

Then again, why would any sane man ever want to be around Mike Pence for any reason on any occasion?

I know a number of university professors who hold their office hours at a table in the middle of the library and won't go to any social event where students are present without their wives.
