1. I don't recall reading where that took place with Nixon.

But, they'll lose the ability to shove their agenda down our throats without more pushback by their moderates. Which would help in the future, and is the main reason they're pretending Trump/Russia doesn't exist in my opinion.

I imagine we end up with either Pence or Ryan, but who the hell really knows.

If Trump were to resign, Pence becomes president; he would sign the same bills Trump would have signed, and presumably would not undo his executive orders. Any bills already signed by Trump would be considered to have been validly enacted. The only way to undo any of it is for the Dems to win a majority in Congress; even then Pence would probably veto the repeals - so they'd have to have enough of a majority to override a veto.

I think Pence and Ryan will both be damaged by this. They are

6. Because laws aren't invalidated retroactively.

Nixon's legislation wasn't invalidated after he resigned. If the law was valid when enacted, it doesn't get automatically repealed because the president who signed it is later impeached or forced to resign. His resignation under a cloud of possible impeachment, or actual impeachment, isn't a determination that he was illegitimate in the first instance; it's about whether he committed high crimes and misdemeanors.

8. Nixon Was Elected Legitimately - Trump Wasn't....

it was the Russian manipulations that got Trump elected. He is an illegitimate president. I don't think we've ever had a situation like this. That should be taken into consideration.

that Trump would not have won the election but for the interference by the Russians. We can draw that inference but it's not objectively provable, at least to the extent of justifying completely invalidating all acts taken by his administration. In any event - and maybe this is the more important point - there's no constitutional mechanism for either nullifying an election or invalidating statutes enacted by congress and signed by that president. The Founding Fathers must not have envisioned a clusterfuck like this.

If he is removed or resigns, that does not change that fact. That is no matter why he stops being the president.

None of these would cause some sort of reset, it will be up future Congresses and presidents to chart their own course, from wherever or whenever Trump's presidency ends.
