(129,513 posts)I think they were saying it's a vulnerable protocol that allows cell towers to communicate with each other... So as you travel around and your phone moves from tower to tower, you can be targeted and then your conversation tapped.

(30,151 posts)DIP done to find LIDB data, CIC/PIC, etc so we know how to route and originating phone call...
Cell towers know how to keep your call up via other protocols that are a secret

(129,513 posts)Used to work with an old navy communications guy who used to try to teach me all those various protocols... TMI.

(51,129 posts)How much disruption of primaries was an orchestrated attempt to make Dems start infighting?

(70,228 posts)went through and picked thug voters, and made sure their fb/twitter feeds were full of fake news.
these are semi-public records. most campaigns, you have to pay to use them. you rent them.
so, these cheetoheads got them free. ie- stole them.

(51,129 posts)You can't go from a voter registration roll to feeding someon'e Fb feed, those are very distinct matters.
mopinko
(70,228 posts)but yeah, i have been saying that provisional ballots need to be examined.
if anyone was dropped, but tried to vote, they were likely to have been given a provisional ballot.

OK. So that is exactly what Obama did. And after that he slapped sanctions on them. Now what?

(129,513 posts)Doesn't this create a vulnerability? (his question)
BumRushDaShow
(129,513 posts)Mandia - hacking group is Russian. Can't yet directly tie Guccifer 2.0 to the breaches yet.
BumRushDaShow
(129,513 posts)Mandia - Not really sure (from an engineering standpoint) but they could have and this was just a shot across the bow.
BumRushDaShow
(129,513 posts)initial reaction - * crickets*
Rid - can't do military - sanctions
Alexander - engage (private) - push to administration to do
Mandia - can't do it on cyber (too much asymmetry they would win).
The above is pretty bleak.
BumRushDaShow
(129,513 posts)Mandia - need to look at multiple sources to validate
Rid - need to trust mainstream media (New York Times/Washington Post)
Alexander - The News media need to make a bigger effort to get the facts out
BumRushDaShow
(129,513 posts)causing protests in Russia.
Rid - May have had to do with the Panama Papers and might put a different light if Russia assumes that the U.S. put that out.

(129,513 posts)Mandia - Probably only 1% leaked of what they have.
L. Coyote
(51,129 posts)That does not mean the hackers work for Russians, just that they go to work in Russia. Important difference.

(129,513 posts)Re: Asking if whether the DNC had handed the FBI their server earlier - and he got interrupted by Mandia to say that his org has been working these things for the past 5 or 6 years and almost every time, the FBI was already there and would tell his type of business (private) to go look at these leads too... Meaning the FBI was most likely already involved with the DNC.
Resulting in Burr saying - I guess that was a diplomatic way of putting it.

-not one individual
-APT28 got password from Guccifer 2.0 for various hacks for data released to DC Leaks, etc.
-Yes believed to be associated with Russia
