I say this without any respect to partisan makeup or the current (wretched) state of Congress right now. This goes far beyond that.
This is fundamental.
This is a matter of separation of powers.
This is no less than a bonafide Constitutional crisis right now.
The fact that Devin Nunes has not, at the very least, recused himself from the committee investigating the White House's relationship with Russia after it was revealed he himself has conferred privately with the White House about matters connected with the investigation, is patently absurd.
The fact that the White House has successfully pressured the investigation to which itself is a target into quashing certain witness's testimony is completely unacceptable.
Constitutional crisis.

(17,020 posts)Someone at one of those alphabet agencies is going to decide they have had enough. That if they don't do something drastic the country will cease to exist as we know it. I believe Nunes will prove to be the tipping point. It is clear that he is unable to perform his job and is not willing to step down nor is Ryan willing to step up and remove him. I give it a week.

(16,094 posts)Is only as good as those who are willing to actually defend it, and not just use it as a prop to seek office!!!
Unfortunately more and more people, I refuse to call them Americans, only use the Constitution as a prop to further a personal agenda or to seek political office!
Even the military has failed in its sacred duty to "support and defend" the Constitution!
Are there any Americans left to defend the Constitution, or has that document become as meaningless as the ingredients on the back of a frozen pizza box???

(805 posts)But, not that many people (other than me) read the ingredients, or even care if they are eating poison. It's the Yummy, Gooey, Fatty, Salty goodness they want. Instant gratification is the norm in our culture.
