One of the things the defeat of the ACA "repeal and replace" demonstrated is that the factionalization of the Republican Party is much more significant that many of us thought. Even on basic principles, they have to have internal fights to get anything done. If everyone ain't happy, they ain't nobody's happy in that party at this point.
The far right legislators insisted on complete destruction of healthcare in general. Nothing the Ryan bill could have done would have appeased them, and they make up a bloc just large enough to cancel out the Republicans margin over the Democrats in the House.
And then there are those who are constantly called RINOS by the right. They can't get re-elected if they shift too far to the right, so they're stuck, too. Some of them voted against the ACA repeal and the worthless bill to replace it.
Bottom line is that there is no unified GOP. We need to take maximum advantage of these factions and use them to our own benefit. I think we will have a number of other opportunities to do so in the coming days. Let's push them to splinter even more. Let's provoke the right into taking hardline positions that can't be tolerated by moderate House members who will lose their seats if they go along.
In short, let's RF the GOP with it's own tools.

Your thoughts are welcome, provided they're about the available actions in the current situation, not hypotheticals about a situation that does not exist.

(17,006 posts)Funny, how everybody was saying it's the Dems who can't come together as a group. I think it's easier to be a group when you are opposing something. The repubs had 8 years to oppose Obama and now that they need to lead their internal differences are coming out front and center. I really think now is the time to push for single payer. The rest of the world seems to have figured out how to make it work, why can't we?
