Republican Jeff Jeans spoke to Paul Ryan at Town Hall and thanked President Obama for saving his life.

Thank you Jeff for telling your story to us and changing dialogue to focus on us, the people.

My wife, a union electrician, was in between jobs and her union sponsored health plan was ending Dec. 31, 2015. We could have gone COBRA for $1600/month, which was more than our monthly income. She was sure she would be back to work soon so we went to the marketplace and bought a silver plan for her (I am on Medicare) starting Jan.1. In April, she is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. We try chemo and chemo/radiation at a cost of $10,000/week. Doesn't work but maybe buys her a few more months. Go onto hospice care at $180/day. Thanks to insurance our out of pocket was capped at $6850. They paid everything else. We had another $6850 out of pocket starting Jan. 1, 2017. She died March 1. I never did total up the total cost of her care but it had to be well over $100,000.

While I was working, we had good insurance but were rarely sick. She often had good union insurance. I estimate that the cost of our insurance over the last 25 years was well over $300,000. So in the longer time frame picture, the insurance industry made a lot of money off us. So some insurance companies made a lot, but another took a big hit. Time to end this ridiculous system and go Medicare for all.

Tell your story. Make people face facts. It would hopefully help you feel much of your pain served a better purpose.

It reached people in that personal way, even though it probably made no impression on Ayn Rand's man Ryan.
