That she hears that there are Whitehouse staff people purging their phones of tweets and messages because they are afraid that they will be subpoenaed.
12:55 on MSNBC- "From single source...former transition team members purging .." I wanted to be precise. Just went back and rewatched this.

(52,303 posts)otherwise anyone who disposes of anything risks prison if there just happens to be an investigation going on that they didn't know about.
in short, you can't be found to "obstruct" an investigation that, as far as you know, doesn't even exist.
in this case, they may have been informed -- or it may be enough that they should have known.
it may also be a crime if the documents are covered by various records laws, though i'm not sure that applies to the transition.

Karl Rove did a pretty good job of deleting 20 million Executive Branch emails in 2007.

Electronic data can almost always be recovered even off cell phones if you have the proper 'tools', knowledge and personnel. I'm pretty sure the IC have all that.
Plus it's a crime to destroy evidence. Best bet is to become a whistleblower and get protection in exchange for helping.
Mind you if they're innocent why bother doing all that? Only the guilty would bother.

(5,810 posts)People working as staff in the White House were NOT briefed on proper records maintenance of all correspondence and phone calls involved in their jobs at the WH? Can we assume this since there seems to be an emergency (and illegal) purge of tweets and calls from their cellphones?
As I recall, shortly after the trump team moved into the White House, people who had served in previous administrations (Obama and Bush 2) talked about educating staff on proper protocol and behavior within the WH and seemed surprised that trump's staff seemed to be ignorant of standard protocols for the WH. Is it possible that no one briefed them on this stuff? Are they really that dumb?? Oh, well.....too bad for them and good news for those investigating these thugs and thieves! They are the gift that keeps on giving......

(5,106 posts)Check out the rules of succession. After the V.P., suspect for the same reasons as the POTUS, Speaker of the House Ryan (obviously not the genius we've been led to believe and taken to the cleaners by Joe Biden when the V.P. candidate) is next in line. After him, Orin Hatch, Pres, Pro Temp of the Senate. Republicans down the line, despite the Democrats' winning the popular vote for President and a larger overall margin in congressional races. But AFTER HATCH, we're down to Rex Tillerson, then Steve Munichin! After the last elected official in line, the whole cabinet appointed by the possibly impeached president are in line! Is there any provision for this? I haven't found it, and how could this situation have ever been anticipated? We have no provisions for a do-over election, Hillary caring to be re-involved or not. You may hate her, but she was definitely cheated. We have got to reconsider the electoral college, which has overridden the popular vote twice in sixteen years, and was meant to save us from an unstable president. The present situation is unbelievable, but must be addressed by Congress before 2020 . Can there be enough honest Republicans, as there were during the Nixon dilemma around now? Not likely, especially considering McConnell, who's been talking what should be considered treason since 2009.
GliderGuider
(21,088 posts)Probably via the Supreme Court. After all, if the election was fraudulent, the entire line of succession is tainted.
