(58,706 posts)not as effective in government, when he doesn't have any real power to wield.
37% approval don't buy a lot of votes for folks staring at both being primaried and opposed in the general.

(58,706 posts)for Ryan and the far righties, better just means fewer tax dollars spent on helping people, and more dollars shoveled off to the top 2%. So in their minds, this bill fucking brilliant.

(9,527 posts)The Freedumb caucus wants to take the already horrid AHCA bill and make it worse. They are voting against it because Ryan's bill isn't shitty enough for their tastes.
I like how Republicans are finding it so difficult to actually govern. I'm hoping it might make them grow up and realize that being petulant doesn't actually accomplish anything.

(58,706 posts)The HFC wants to repeal and.....nothing. Full stop. End of sentence.
They are philosophically against any form of government assistance to individuals. A big part of the Repubs problem stems from this. HFC is unwilling to compromise because they are the worst kind of ideologues. They know they are right and want to bring their brand of "tough love" to the American people. Like President Obama said, with them you are on your own.

(10,109 posts)I think they will come back with a bill that allows those junk policies to be sold. Or they will somehow just stop funding it. Plus they still have Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security to slash.

(6,262 posts)The mess stays with Trump and Ryan. They will blame anything and any group but themselves or other Repubs. Oh, that's right, OBAMA!!!!
The troubles the ACA is having seems to be mainly for individual policies according to an NPR interview I heard riding home. So isolate that issue and work on it was the logical advice.
But no -- cripple the ACA so it looks more flawed than it is via your own Exec. Orders to basically eliminate the individual mandate for young, healthy (so far) people. Probably some other actions here and there tucked in to other actions to favor the insurance companies and the rich, before replacing more to their liking.
Now home and it seems via Tapper that no vote tonight. Okay - but retract the other items now in place to make the current system be worse than it should be in the interim. Oh sure, like that's gonna happen.
I am already on Medicare and my premiums for the supplemental plus the amount taken for Plan B are getting ridiculous, given that I am in fairly good health. Still I am one of the lucky ones, and am so very grateful.
Cruel for so many others.
