Rick Perry challenges election of Texas A&s first gay student body president, says it was stolen in name of diversityBobby Brooks, a junior at Texas A&M, made history this month when he was elected as the universitys first openly gay student body president.
Nearly two decades prior, Rick Perry, also an A&M alumnus, made his own bit of university history when he became the first Aggie to serve as governor of Texas.
But for their shared school pride, these men and their accomplishments had nothing to do with each other.
That changed Wednesday, when Perry, the countrys current energy secretary, chose to plunge into campus politics, claiming publicly that Brooks stole the election from another student.
That student, Robert McIntosh, is the son of a prominent Republican fundraiser in Dallas who campaigned for Donald Trump during his presidential election.

(21,852 posts)Like learning about the Department of Energy and what he is supposed to be doing there?
Rick Perry was not picked as Secretary of Energy to run the department. There is no need for him to learn anything.

(2,037 posts)that Rick is quite fond of young, waif-life men, and was almost caught in the act in March 2004.
He was reportedly in a downtown Austin hotel with his trick when the fire alarm went off in the building, causing the right honorable governor to panic and almost run out of the room in his birthday suit. Of course, we only have the escort's word on that; but with some of these Republicans, having a double life is hardly surprising.

(16,875 posts)Not surprising but still disgusting. Rick, I'm so sad your GOP golden boy lost the election, not really, but, perhaps, you can see that, even in staunch red, Bible Belt Texas, the kids are ok, they can think for themselves, and student body election like this one can take place, precisely because the kids aren't bigots like you Rick!

(11,949 posts)as much as I hate Perry, it does seem like the kid got a raw deal. He won the election by 750 votes and had it taken away due to seemingly minor rules violations.
He was disqualified for not disclosing the cost of glow sticks used in a video.
But it is still ridiculous for the S of E to get involved. Makes it seem like he mentally never left college.

(11,175 posts)You have no basis for your assumption that Rick Perry is even trying to memorize that stuff.
Isn't it more likely that he is, instead, trying on different glasses to see which ones make him look smarter?

(9,350 posts)I am not in the least bit surprised that the person Rick Perry is fighting for is the son of a prominent Republican fundraiser. Before I read that part I was thinking the kid who lost most likely is the child of someone close to Rick Perry.
As far as the terms of the case, Rick Perry is wrong. First, it was only widely reported that the young man who eventually won the election was gay after he won the election. Second, the young man who was disqualified was disqualified because he "failed to disclose financial information for glow sticks briefly featured in a campaign video". Now I will say the glow sticks reason seems a bit ticky tacky, but the only thing that should happen is that Robert McIntosh should be given a chance to explain why he did not disclose financial information about the glow sticks. However, even if he could explain why he did what he did that might not be enough reason to overturn his disqualification. If he did not follow the rules he should be disqualified.
