Wow.....
How does that feel to hear????
As someone who was a young adult during Watergate, that is a powerful statement.....
until now, it was hard to imagine anything worse
and Nixon was not even as close to the Plumber crew as Trump is to his gang.

(5,730 posts)Like DT said, if I dont pay taxes, that makes me smart.
I want war heros who don't get caught, like maybe ones who turn and avoid the battle completely, like him.

(90,793 posts)In the end, I agreed with Barbara Jordan that the Constitution had worked; "The Constitution is whole."
But we had a Committee that was truly bipartisan, composed of honorable men and women who were patriots first.
Today, it is really going to be touch-and-go.
Btw, who said that? Your subject line, I mean. It is so true.

(11,104 posts)A couple things come to mind....
During Watergate, generally speaking, Democrats and Republicans worked together, putting country before party. The hearings were taken seriously, truth was the goal.
Trump had a reckless disregard for truth and honesty from the beginning. He ignored laws, openly broke them, even asked others to do the same. He encouraged Putin to hack Clinton's account, told rally goers to attack protesters, openly promoted his own business ventures.
The party he represents goes along with most everything he does, truth and country be damned.

(60,010 posts)We now have so much access to non-corporate media, thanks to the web.
daily Kos, TPM, Daily Beast, Slate, Etc and of course Twitter, where there are dozens of people finding the news way ahead of MSM.
Which is one of the reasons this is such a fast moving story.
also...MSM is now turning on Trump.
Wall Street Journal has recently provided scathing editorials, WaPo is all over the story and Time just provided an interview of Trump from yesterday, after Nuns spoke, that shows what an ignorant ass he is.

(60,010 posts)Just a tidbit....Ms. Jordon was almost 60 when she died
and left behind a a woman she had been with for more than 20 years. A few years too early to be out and proud, it seems.
I wish Clinton HAD appointed her to SCOTUS, as he wanted to, but she was in ill with leukemia at the time.
Watching the hearings of that time, one is struck by ow proper and respectful and serious the members were. None of the grandstanding and stupid talk that we hear today.
