It says that it made the situation more of a "mess" that needs an independent investigation (which, of course, the Republicans will stymie), but not that it's worse for Trump. And he notes that the upshot of the news is people jumping to the conclusion that this "proves" Trump's wiretap claims. (It doesn't, but perception is reality in politics.) In short, it may have created a "mess," but one that greatly helps Trump, not harms him.
