2. Nixon would have been impeached and convicted...

After he was forced to release the incriminating White House tapes, the outcome of an impeachment trial was a foregone conclusion, with even enough of his own diehard party members publicly abandoning him.

So, the question is, what would cause enough of today's hard-line Republicans to do the same to Cheetolini? I can only think of more proof of collusion with Russia -- such as Putin outright invading all of Ukraine or the Baltic states, and his puppet in the White House blocking any attempts by NATO to defend them.

McCain, Graham, Cruz, Rubio - and Rand Paul! - could all be persuaded to inform the Liar-in-Chief the fraud is over!

Just like the Republicans did with Nixon!

Impeachment would lead to conviction of a crime - much better to resign.

4. They knew they had the votes to convict him in the Senate after assured impeachment by the House

He was informed of this and resigned. If he hadn't, he would have been convicted. Don't know what exactly the penalty would have been other than escorting him out. Don't know how they did the internal counting for that historic message to him, but that is what I remember.

Clinton toughed it out because he was sure the Senate wouldn't convict, even if the House impeached. Don't know how he knew besides reliable internal vote predictions, but Nixon got the bad news he would be both impeached and convicted. I think it was Ford who led the group to the White House to deliver the news.

The most honorable thing he did about the whole mess was to resign and not put the country through the final ending. Also self-serving, of course, but I think he understood that the damage to the country would be as bad as his own shame.

No sources here except my own memory. That, too, was a horrific time for our republic.

12. As for Clinton, he knew that he had all 45 Democratic votes on his side.

They would have had to peel off 12 Democrats and that was never going to happen. Interesting on several of the charges, Clinton actually peeled off 10 Repubicans.

5. There were votes to impeach him
Mon Mar 20, 2017, 04:39 PM
Mar 2017

Republican Senators sent a delegation telling him to resign or be found guilty

Goldwater, along with House Republican Leader John Jacob Rhodes and Senate Republican Leader Hugh Scott, entered the Oval Office around 5 p.m. The Arizona senator sat directly in front of Nixon’s desk, the others to the side. Goldwater told Nixon he had perhaps 16 to 18 Senate supporters left – too few to avoid ouster. Congressman Rhodes said House support was just as soft.

they will double down on the same methods they used last year, and Trump/Sessions will ensure the FBI lets them do it

winning in 2018 is a tall order but if we lose in 2018 there's no way we win in 2020

7. Investigation, laying out the facts, and following where they lead
Mon Mar 20, 2017, 04:42 PM
Mar 2017

The White House will complain each and every step of the way, and it will have a lot of initial support in Congress. We need a thorough investigation grounded in fact. By the end of his time, even Nixon's most fervent supporters couldn't get away from his criminality. We need a methodical, deliberate investigation that develops the facts and lay it out before the American people. By the end, we should be at the same place as we were with Nixon, with no serious counterargument being put forward.

The honorable thing will probably elude President Trump, so it will go through impeachment to trial in the Senate. "But that will leave us with Mike Pence!" Can't be helped, and my strategy for dealing with these corrupt motherfuckers is "next man up." Guess how it works.

At some point they can even get tired of defending President Simp. Pence isn't much better, but he's polite compared to the Donald.

Just impeach Trump and we'll deal with the next nightmare in Pence.

It was just a question on whose terms does he leave on. He made too many enemies.

Trump will go out...so long as he looks like a winner in the process.
