General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThis isn't even funny. On MSNBC, they just said tactical nuclear strikes real possiblity
with this administration.
About an hour ago, a woman had on a Congressional Medal of Honor winner and PJ Rourke (sp?) They were saying that the rhetoric is not good and that once you say "Diplomacy has failed," and "N. Korea is an imminent threat," you don't have many options left. They discussed options and said that once someone drops any kind of bomb, it's on, and they could see Trump using tactical nuclear weapons. I am 55, and used to have to hide under my desk in the 60s and 70s two miles from downtown NYC, wondering how that desk will help me in the event of a nuclear strike. I never thought I would hear such loose talk about using nukes as I have heard from Trump last year. And now this situation.
I was out in my studio making jewelry, but now I am going to go hide in my room and figure out how much rice and beans we will need to survive this, if we can.

DPRK can ship them through intermediary nations.
They also have tactical nuke artillery shells that can go 15-20 miles. Kiss goodbye Seoul.

(7,581 posts)I despise Pence, but I don't think he is itching for a nuclear war. He isn't batshit crazy the same way Trump is.

(54,445 posts)Trump may not have paid attention to Pentagon briefings that laid this out, but Pence might have.
No one is saying they trust Kim Jong-Un to be any less batshit crazy than his dad (or Trump, for that matter), but we do have a few missile defense systems in place, and we also have a few conventional weapons that could take out their launch sites (if our clandestine services have not been "curtailed" by Trump budget cuts yet).

(115,869 posts)if need be. Tillerson seems way over his head as SoS but he might at least have a little common sense; Mattis is probably the only member of the cabinet who has a clue how to do his job - maybe he could throw some cold water on anything as stupid (OK, way beyond stupid) as challenging NK to a nuclear confrontation.

btw....GS Scott was PISSED at Kubrick for putting in all the over the top takes in the final cut. he didn't like the 'overacting' that came out, as a result of Kubrick egging him on.
they also used to play chess all the time, and Kubrick embarrassed Scott, who considered himself quite the budding grand master

Do you think Trump would be taunting Kim if North Korea could reach DC or Florida with a nuke? Never! He is a coward of the highest magnitude.

(31,261 posts)Do you think China will sit idle while we use tactical nukes on NK? China would suffer the radiation fallout and dying people, it won't let us just merrily dance away.

(32,082 posts)The radiation is minor and localized. No one would die in China or any other place from that. If what you are saying was true everyone in the U.S. would be dead from the Nevada tests. Huge nuclear bombs were test off at the test range for 12 years and there were no radiation problems.
sharedvalues
(6,916 posts)The radiation is dangerous and ample and can be dispersed by the wind. Remember the majority of fallout comes from fission not fusion and so smaller weapons are relatively much more dirty than big ones.

(6,916 posts)When officials finally tallied the numbers, the theoretical wars toll on Germany included 1.7 million dead and 3.5 million wounded killing more people in a matter of hours than strategic bombing had taken during the entirety of World War II.
The results of exercise shocked and horrified citizens in NATO countries, especially in West Germany ground zero for any war with the Soviets, and alarmed their leadership. For years afterward, Carte Blanche shaped attitudes toward nuclear weapons and their role in defense of Europe.
