Mitt Romney: Students Should Get As Much Education As They Can AffordTruly shocking, Mitt Romney has moved on from chastising America for copying him to more important things, like the fact that education is expensive for a reason: so that only people who can afford it are permitted to get it. So true! While in Virginia on Friday, Romney said that while America may be the land of opportunity for every single person, when it comes down to it there is not quiiiiiiite enough opportunity to go around, and education is great, but a person should really only get as much education as they can afford and with their time theyre able to get, which is a weird, as well as an evil, sentence.
Via Think Progress, heres the extent of Romneys remarks. There was a video, but it doesnt appear to be working, which is fine, who wants to see that square robot head on a Friday?
I think this is a land of opportunity for every single person, every single citizen of this great nation. And I want to make sure that we keep America a place of opportunity, where everyone has a fair shot. They get as much education as they can afford and with their time theyre able to get and if they have a willingness to work hard and the right values, they ought to be able to provide for their family and have a shot of realizing their dreams.
We can confirm this was Romney speaking because of the words this great nation.

(3,596 posts)Society cannot be limited by to what extent the ruling class can advance the interests of their children. Society can only advance when the skills, capabilities and enthusiasm of the "have nots" have an opportunity to blossom.
I am not suggesting that everyone be given unbridled "free access" to further education. What I am suggesting is that we, as a society, benefit when people with that potential prosper. It should not be a matter of "what you can afford" but rather what potential you have for yourself AND society.
RMoney is all about the person. We, as liberals, embrace the notion that while we are enthusiastic about personal fulfillment, we are also about bringing value to the community.

(1,055 posts)than paying for all education for all citizens for four years beyond basic high school. It doesn't have to be college, there are plenty of professions that require training beyond high school.
being accepted into a school beyond a bachelor's degree should be the trigger to pay for additional school.
So long as you keep a GPA above 2.0, all tuition and books should be paid for.
No nation in the world would be able to compete against a United States as educated as that
