Actually, "access" is at the core of the American Dream.

"One day we'll make it big!"

What the American Dream sells you is not a good life. It's the promise that you will have "access" to a good life. It's possible. Except that you do all the work.

"From dishwasher to millionaire."

I don't remember who said it, but some journalist/author lamented that the US-Americans do not see themselves as the blue-collar workers they are, but as "temporarily inconvenienced millionaires". Oh, you totally have a shot at being millionaire. Promise.
But that myth steadfastly ignores how much those business-geniuses depend on luck and opportunity to make their fortune.

No, you cannot become a millionaire through hard work. That's not how this works, that's not how any of this works.
The only way to become a millionaire is to have a good idea and to have the opportunity to turn that idea into money.

But in theory you could be a millionaire one day. The "access" is there. Except you have to do all the work by yourself.
