Population declining in Rep. Steve King's district

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) set the cable news world alight Sunday with a controversial tweet belittling immigrants and siding with a Dutch politician who has been convicted of hate speech.

But the tweet belied a reality of economic stagnation in rural America: King's district is dying.

King's district covers 39 counties north and west of Des Moines. It is among the least diverse districts in America, with a population that is more than 95 percent white.

And while the urban core of King's district — based in Sioux City, across the Missouri River from Omaha, and Ames, home of Iowa State University — is growing, many of the rural counties are watching their populations decline

You had to go to Des Moines or Omaha.

There were a few black families in Ft. Dodge and Souix City but in between was white as can be. That changed when the likes of King allowed Tyson Foods to buy almost all of the meat and poultry processing and replace highly paid employees with low wage immigrant workers, telling everyone that no one wanted the jobs.

He is a racist asshole, but like trump, will exploit immigrants and foreign workers for profit of himself or his cronies.

I left because there was nothing in the district foe me since I wasn't a farmer.

I knew that there are many processing and packing plants that employ immigrants - legal and undocumented - so what is his beef? (no pun intended)

They can't keep winning elections if there's no one to represent! I mean who wants to live in a backwards area where all they have is AM hate radio and assholes representing them in Congress! Keep them poor enough so they can't relocate to a much nicer area - problem solved! I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner! It's so obvious now!

White supremacists and Confederates like King, Sessions and Fox know they have their best chance at advancing their agenda with this Executive branch.

The impetus for blocking immigration, preventing (white) abortions, and pushing for genetic screening becomes clearer when we see the demographics in districts like King's.

A few years back, I saw a news piece about the anti-abortion movement that included footage of this older white southern man imploring a white woman going into a clinic: "You're killing your own kind!"

He wasn't concerned about abortions in general. He was freaking out because to his thinking, the woman was going to prevent another WHITE life from entering the world.

People like this are Bannon's and King's base.
