A group of environmental activists pulled off a daring act of defiance at one of President Trump’s premier golf courses early Sunday morning.

The group — which labels itself an “anonymous environmental activist collective” — snuck into Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., and carved a message into the green with six-foot-tall letters that said: “NO MORE TIGERS. NO MORE WOODS.”

1. My first thought was to check for claims of dog whistles.

After all, "No more Tiger Woods"? (Where "Tiger Woods" is a plural.) How could that not be saying, "No more black golfers, let them keep their poles out of holes that belong to us." Esp. in Rancho PV.

But since it's environmentalists that claimed it, such an obvious dog whistle--more of a trombone, really--can't be.

That's the thing about dog whistles. Only dogs can hear them. So if you're not one of the intended audience, all you hear is silence. And if silence = dog whistle, then we're always surrounded by dog whistles. Can't prove otherwise.

(It's why linguists hate zero morphemes. And one thing that math students hate is that whole "you can divide by 1," even if 1 just happens to be written as a series of polynomials or exponentials or trig functions divided by themselves.)
