Can the states do anything to investigate Trump?

As Trump and his administration are ridding the federal government of any person who might investigate Russian ties, violations of the emoluments clause, etc., can any state government (including, and especially New York State) do any kind of investigation that would bring charges regarding illegal activities?

And if they're behind the scenes, how do you know about them, but no one else does?

and they had jurisdiction over that violation. In New York, that state's attorney general might be able to look into some of Trump's businesses because they are headquartered there; I believe the state of New York ordered Trump's "foundation" to stop operating because it had never registered itself with the state. But once they get into matters involving Russia, that's going to be federal jurisdiction. So they are really pretty limited.

and to all others who answered.

I live in southern Virginia now (beautiful place, but redder than hell) but as my name suggests, was born Brooklyn, NY, and lived on Long Island growing up.

I love New York.
