Mike Papantonio - amazing, righteous rant on the Ed Schultz show just now....

I first became familiar with him in the chilling, scary horror film Jesus Camp. I've always liked it when I caught him on the Ed show, either as a call in commentator, or filling in. But today, as I was running errands (and noting it was 100 degrees outside just after noon!), his first 15- 20 minutes covered so much - the crumble of our empire, how the "big rat" hedonists are taking whatever they can before the potentially inevitable (ongoing?) crash, noting how people need to wake up, the people that are anesthetized and voting against their best interests, how many of the so-called "Christians" in our country on the right wing clearly have no understanding of the bible (particularly the Beatitudes), how people need to wake up now and need to recognize the value of voices like Chris Hedges - it was just amazing.

It wasn't for the timid, faint of heart, for those who bury their heads in the sand, who think if their own little piece of the world is OK then they can ignore the larger picture. But mostly he said that there was still time to turn it around - but there is no cavalry coming to save us.

We ARE the cavalry. So what are we gonna do?

Well worth listening to that opening 20 minutes if it can be found on the Google.

Amazing... but, sadly, nothing I didn't already know.

Anyone familiar with history can see this country is in the throes of ruin. That's probably why so many Republicans don't want to fund education: they don't want the masses to learn history and recognize our crumbling empire based on their surroundings.
