Can you honestly say we're the greatest country in the world after reading this?

According to a report from the Department of Education, the number of homeless students in the U.S. topped one million for the first time during the 2010-2011 school year. The number includes students enrolled in public preschool through 12th grade, and as the Orlando Sentinel pointed out, “the figure actually underestimates the number of homeless children by excluding infants, toddlers, preschool-aged children who aren’t enrolled in public programs and homeless children who are home-schooled.” According to the data, “44 states overall saw the number of homeless students increase, while “fifteen states’ homeless student population increased by one fifth or more.” (HT: Joy Resmovits and Saki Knafo)

Everytime I hear it, I want to rip my hair out.

We aren't "the greatest country in the world" by many measures. I get so sick of hearing the propaganda that we are over and over, always with the implicit dare for no one to say a word to the contrary. It is the most dissent-silencing phrase the right has come up with yet.

Whoever wrote that phrase is either irony deficient or a snarkist of the highest caliber, damned if I can tell which..

Every major NCAA Division I college football program loves to brag about how their fans are the best in college football and their gameday experience is like no other experience in the country. And while any of those given colleges may indeed have a great gameday experience, it is impossible to claim that one is truly the best in the country.

This act will mandate that everybody must rent an apartment or face a tax penalty.

Problem solved.

proud to be American or thought this was the greatest country for a long time.

I am proud of our president and if we can get rid of these trouble makers in Congress and the Senate I will feel much better about this country.

We need decent people of both parties that really care about the country and it's citizens. We don't have that now.
