(17,865 posts)It is as difficult to describe what a negative impact firing Preet Bharara would have on the justice system as it is to understand why this decision is being made. As has already been repeatedly reported, Bharara had meetings with both Donald Trump and incoming Attorney General Jeff sessions months ago where he was asked if hed be willing to stay on and complete his important work.
This could get interesting.

(129,304 posts)notably the Rs in NY because he was going after Cuomo and DeBlasio.
From your link -
Also from the latest NYT article -
Before Mr. Bharara was fired on Saturday, one of New Yorks top elected Republicans expressed support for him.
Good for Preet, he is doing the job he was appointed to do! Assemblyman Brian M. Kolb, the State Assembly minority leader, wrote on Twitter.
Assemblyman Steven F. McLaughlin, a Republican who was fond of calling for draining the swamp in Albany long before Mr. Trump embraced that expression, had urged Mr. Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions to reconsider on Friday.
Big mistake, he wrote on Twitter.

The above GOPer "support" was mainly because he was going after NY Democrats.
