"I'm 55. This is the first time in my life I voted, and I voted for Trump hoping that he would change the insurance so I could get good health care," she told ABC News. "I might as well have not voted."
She first spoke to The New York Times about her concern that she would receive thousands of dollars less in assistance, as tax credits, to help her buy health care coverage under the proposed American Health Care Act (AHCA), dubbed "Trumpcare."
Brawley reportedly receives approximately $8,688 in health care subsidies per year to pay for insurance, but under the proposed bill, she would receive $3,500 a year in tax credits, according to the Times.

(82,849 posts)Next time, take a little time to learn about the history and the proclivities of the two major parties, and you'll have a better idea of what you can expect. You'll learn which party peddles nice, comforting slogans only to turn like a rabid wolverine once they're in office.
Please apply the lessons you have hopefully learned to 2018.

(14,167 posts)I hate to say it, but that's what these people deserve. Most will never admit their error in voting for a traitor, and in subjecting the rest of us to his evil reign of terror.

(2,892 posts)and the tea party bunch are against this sham offering because it still contributes too much to low income people for insurance...
I am 60, barley over poverty line and am getting about 9800 this year in supplements, with the $4000 tax credit plus increased deductible and copays sure to be included I can do nothing...back to the er and bankruptcy...oh, and death...

(42,641 posts)Unless she is an immigrant who just became a citizen,
or was in a coma until November,
or just got her voting rights restored after prison time,
why did she wait?
And could she not have waited until 2018?

(9,527 posts)Mocking doesn't ever teach people to be smarter/better. It just teaches them that the person mocking them is a jerk.
I hope that people who know her will help her grow and make better voting choices in the future.

(13,431 posts)She voted for the party which advocates personal responsibility so mocking her for her poor choices only reinforces that personal responsibility belief she prefers. She should be welcoming to people who help shine a light on that belief system for her.

(1,606 posts)and too bad the rest of us have to suffer as well.
What is with these idiots thinking trump ever promised ANYTHING? Other than gibberish? There wasn't any actual platform or plans noted, aside from "gonna build a wall durr hurr"
I guess gaudy, vulgar blowhard racism is super duper appealing to some people. It's unfortunate that we all have to pay for their mistakes now.
Proud Liberal Dem
(24,446 posts)Democrats run candidates in every election promising to vote for policies that help people and make their lives better but loads of people run right out and vote for Republicans, whom not only won't make things better but actually make them worse and then, what do they do? They vote for Republicans again. Wash.rinse.repeat. What is it that they don't get???? We are doomed by the stupidity and idiocy of the masses.

(11,686 posts)but if I were president I would try to make it federal law that when you are 18 and a legal citizen you have to vote. All voting would be by mail. No more of that getting to voting machines. It would kind of be like the draft except you get to voice your opinion on who you want working for your rights. I am not exactly sure how that would be enforced but it is a nice idea.

(3,427 posts)I think it's a good idea! However, it has to be done at the state level, not by the Federal government. Here in Washington State (and Oregon), all voting is done by mail, and it works great! We get our ballots two to three weeks before Election Day, so we have plenty of time to ponder the issues and candidates. And there's no worry about waiting in lines or taking time off work.
Australia is one country I know of that has compulsory voting. They enforce it by imposing a small fine for failing to vote unless there's a valid reason. The fine isn't punitive, just enough to encourage people to vote.

(11,686 posts)I like Australia's law. I would also get rid of electoral votes. All votes would be equal.

(3,657 posts)That's the problem, people vote when they have absolutely no idea what the candidates stand for. They just go in and make it up.

(1,542 posts)Martha Brawley of Monroe, N.C., said she voted for President Trump in the hope he could make insurance more affordable. But on Tuesday, Ms. Brawley, 55, was feeling increasingly nervous based on what she had heard about the new plan from television news reports. She pays about $260 per month for a Blue Cross plan and receives a subsidy of $724 per month to cover the rest of her premium. Under the House plan, she would receive $3,500 a year in tax credits $5,188 less than she gets under the Affordable Care Act.
Im scared, Ill tell you that right now, to think about not having insurance at my age, said Ms. Brawley, who underwent a liver biopsy on Monday after her doctor found that she has an autoimmune liver disease. If I didnt have insurance, these doctors wouldnt see me.
She pays $260.00 and month, got a subsidy of $724.00 per month and she wanted more... and now she might lose it all..
