by Frank HymanThanks to the profitability of this no-wage/low-wage combination, a majority of American one-per-centers were southerners. Slavery made southern states the richest in the country. The South was richer than any other country except England. But that vast wealth was invisible outside the plantation ballrooms. With low wages and few schools, southern whites suffered a much lower land ownership rate and a far lower literacy rate than northern whites."

He goes on to say that this con job survives today through propaganda and controlling the narrative through media. ..The modern day version of this is Rush Limbaugh and most RW Talk Radio, Fox News etc. - all propaganda that works in getting people to vote against measures that would improve their lives, because those measures also improve the lives of others.

(790 posts)I live in rural upstate NY & see this vile flag flying on poles and windows of homes & trucks. It just sickens me as My Paternal Great Great Uncle died at Gettysburg & Great Great Grandfather & his 2 sons all wounded in Antietam.
The confederacy was shown way to much leniency & Jeff Davis, Bobbie Lee & the rest of the fucking traitors should of been swinging on a noose!

(3,847 posts)Never did I see as many Confederate flags as I do now. In the 60's -80's that shit didn't go over - at all. Now that I am back in the South I see them every damn day.
The South is the epitome of 1%ers. They act as if no one except them is allowed to rise above their "station" in life. This attitude is un-American, plain and simple.
