General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThis is making the FB rounds pretty heavily, so if anyone wants to a crack at it,
Here it is:
I don't care who you voted for. At all! But this... this is what bothers me so badly...I keep seeing people post on how they are terrified, or scared? Well.. what are you scared of exactly? War? Because that's happening. School shootings? Because that's happening. Pipeline? That's been happening. Terrorism? Definitely alive and well. Going broke due to health insurance? Mm yes. Corruption throughout the system? Already there. Police officers being murdered? Yep, that's happening. Bullying? Check. Loss of jobs? We've got that on lock. A tanking economy. Yep. Being discriminated against for your religion, political views, sexual orientation, race? That's been going on. Rape, murder, violence, riots.. all going on and has been.
So tell me, what are you scared of that is not already happening basically everywhere? This isn't a Trump problem, this is a people problem. Y'all need to reevaluate your own selves..
Maybe America is a little too scared and a little too easily offended.
Quit being scared, crying, and offended by everything.. step up and do your part as an American, no, as a human being. Treat others with respect, help and encourage one another, raise your kids right, be a contributing member of society. Make sure your hands are clean, that's your job. Burning the American flag? Get out of here with that, how about you do your job to make it a better place.
But right now, all I see is hate. It's disturbing, and the ones with the most hate are being exactly what they claim to be against.
Copy and paste if you agree....this is common sense to me!...

(139 posts)Hmmm. I know a lot of people are suffering, but the economy is not tanking.....just yet.
ProfessorGAC
(65,134 posts)As long as growth stays positive, inflation stays low and UE stays down (although at too low a median income level), the economy is not going to tank.
It can sputter, but there are no reputable economists who think we're in the kind of situation we were in from 2003 to 2006 when things tanked but was predicted by nearly every one with a solid reputation.

(52,286 posts)we're not used to a president hell-bent on tearing down the national defenses against those problems.
war? governments are supposed to use diplomacy to avoid them. but donnie's practically shutting down the state department.
school shootings? governments are supposed to at least try to keep us safe, but donnie's making it easier for mentally unstable people to get guns.
terrorism? governments are supposed to protect us and reduce the chances of it happening, but donnie's travel ban seems designed to radicalize people and nations against us!
loss of jobs, tanking economy? if you've been paying attention, millions of jobs were created under obama and we've had the longest expansion ever. but donnie's hell-bent on bringing it to a crashing halt by starting a protectionist war.
the problem isn't that the world is a scary place.
the problem is that donnie is all about undermining all our protections.

(10,252 posts)As a Buddhist, my mission is to help my frightened and depressed liberal friends calm down, create some self-courage and hope, and get busy organizing and winning elections. Nothing ever changes without we ourselves creating the causes and conditions for change. And nothing ever changes until critical mass is achieved. So stop whining and crying "woe is me." As Obama said in his farewell speech, we are the change that we seek.

(58,685 posts)YMMV, of course. It has all the talking points, the "he-man, stand up and pull yourselves up by your bootstraps, it's all on you" crap they've been spewing for years.
I'd wager a bet that the writer and forwarder of that rant has more hate in his/her heart than anybody around here.
More "the world is going to shit" nonsense with the tired old "it's your faut" "be reasonable, do it my way" tone.

(423 posts)You're right. This isn't a Trump problem. This is an America problem, and America just ignored the call to do something about this madness and instead elected a mad king who is going to exasperate the problem exponentially. You brought this upon our country which we all love. So don't you fucking dare talk to me about being upset and angry and scared about what is happening to my fellow citizens. And don't you fucking dare tell me that exercising my constitutional rights to assemble and petition my government aren't contributing to society either. It's our civic duty, not an expression of hate. If you want hate go watch Spicer's press conference or read DT's twitter.

(63,219 posts)I'm scared that his idiocy is a smokescreen behind which the GOP will pass nightmarish legislation to punish the poor and to sanctify the wealthy.
I'm scared that public dissent is considered a more serious crime than top-level government officials engaged in espionage on behalf of Russia.
I'm scared that racist white male assholes can attack women and minorities openly and more or less with impunity.
I'm scared that our idiot leader has created the environment to encourage and foster that attitude.
I'm scared that the corrupt GOP will rubber-stamp everything that Trump tries to accomplish, almost all of it terrible and with far-reaching disastrous consequences that will be close to impossible to undo.
I'm scared that idiotic Rightwing sheep will continue to circulate propaganda as they prostrating themselves to their rich owners, and I'm scared that uncritical readers will thoughtlessly swallow that propaganda and will recirculate it, thereby spreading ignorance and an outright disdain for knowledge.

(7,963 posts)They want to believe what they believe, facts and reality be damned. I quit responding to these provocative statements b/c they are intended to silence you. So, while it did achieve the effect of a no response from me, it also resulted in my unfriending a bunch of these assholes from my fb. I decided last year and this year that I really dont want to have these people on my radar at all.

I'm also half Hispanic and have been mistaken for Indian since I work in IT and now they're shooting Indian IT people to. It's scary.

With such a flock of chicken shits, who is watching the guy with his finger on the red button? Now, that fact may not bother some of us, but to others, it scares the shit out of them.

(16,646 posts)It's a laundry list of what white, privileged men might be concerned. You'll note nothing about being deported, or having your marriage annulled, or re-instatement of the ban on gays in the military. Nothing about rolling back clean water or clean air. Goodness knows there's nothing about DWB or BLM.

(1,462 posts)Are why I left a racist filled college political forum for DU. I firmly believe we have to know and try to understand the repukes, but they are so brainwashed by fox that they refuse to believe FACTS! Why should I be comfortable with a misogynistic, racist, pussy grabbing, psychopath in the White House?

(20,872 posts)The reality is great strides in all these areas could be made but aren't because people like you would rather pretend real problems don't exist, focus worry on problems that don't exist, claim nothing can be solved, vote for tough solutions to problems that aren't problems, think it will all be better anyways under a conservative guiding hand, all this is the fault of those oppressed, and actual solutions to these problems = hated. That you believe any of these is disturbing. That you believe them all at once is rather funny. Winter is coming.
If sense was common, Hillary would be president.
