What we are living through now is proof our healthcare system is failing. Congress has no answers. They are going to make things worse. The debate itself is wrecking are lives. It has us worried sick. It is ruining our way of life. Even if you have insurance through your employer the monthly premiums have gotten expensive. Most employers can not afford it, thats why they are passing the cost on to the employees. When i started working healthcare was free. Those days are gone.
The medicare system is already in place. Its cheaper. Seniors love it. That means it works. If you add healthy young people to medicare that will help with the funding problem. The best thing the american people can do to improve their lives is to end the insane, destructive debate on healthcare and demand medicare for all.

We will get there eventually, but thank Horatio that Obama got us this far, and set us up for the eventual move to medicare for all.

(10,252 posts)insurance for-profit healthcare. And even then it will be an uphill slog. You may have noticed that Republicans have not even had the CBO score their current bill. That's because they don't want anyone to know. They keep "promising" that CBO scoring will come before the vote, but they are liars.
Then there's the problem of citizens not doing their own reading and research from trusted sources about how universal healthcare might actually work. It's simply in the actuarial numbers that when the cost of healthcare is spread across the entire US population, the cost per person is less.
Insurance companies would be out of the healthcare business. But they can sell other forms of insurance, like home and car.
Then there's the problem of access. We would need to have more medical schools turning out Drs, nurses, and healthcare professionals. And that means building more schools, but also lowering tuition costs. Plus fund building more clinics and hospitals.
The obvious place to get the required funding is to cut the defense budget. The amount of GNP that we spend on defense is obscene. So you can see that this is very very difficult to accomplish. So first, we need to start winning elections.
