He mentioned how they all took an oath to defend our Constitution. Donald Trump has broken that oath.

Some Democrat should bring up the motion in the House. Every member of Congress needs to take a stand on this now. Donald Trump should be impeached.
The sooner it is done, the better it will be for all. It will be better for the Republicans and better for our country. For some reason, they simply cannot pull the trigger? They cannot see the reality in front of their eyes. For some reason, they block it out. They refuse to recognize it.
There should be a bi-partisan commission set up to find the answers, in my opinion. It is so partisan and divided that it is impossible to see the other side.

(111,107 posts)They say perjury is hard to prove but I believe a good lawyer could convict on perjury. How can Sessions do his job as Attorney General with this cloud over his head?

(205,814 posts)Sessions has no business being our highest legal authority with legal issues hanging over his head. Not that it's a surprise, he's yet another one of Trump's "anti" appointments...

I thought there might have been a connection to Sessions or something else that I missed.

(404 posts)Anyone who puts out the GOP's racist, sexist, classist, antienvironmentalist edicts should automatically trigger a violation and major abuse of the First Amendment. Trump is way beyond impeachment, though; he should be in prison alongside Bush, Cheney, his entire "team," Mike Pence, and Ted Cruz.

(404 posts)I have yet to meet a Democrat who doesn't want this orange haired monster destroyed six ways to Sunday. And keep in mind there are FAR more of us than of them, judging by the popular vote in the US, along with the fact that every other country on the planet OVERWHELMINGLY hate Trump. But that's not the point. The point is we are screwed until we get the majority again. Hopefully the courts can help us get some wins prior to 2018, particularly in allowing immigrants to vote.

(404 posts)There are at least three reasons, but suffice to say that he has committed several violations that warrant such a criminal sanction.
That's my second favorite "opinion" of Trump. My favorite opinion is not something I would care to publicize.

(63,221 posts)I personally know a number of Republicans that didn't vote for him and can't stand him. Mostly women. However these people were Charlie Baker Republicans and not the rabid, religious, hateful Republicans that tend to support Trump. But I also know a few Republican men that can't stand him either. They think he's an absolute idiot and an embarrassment to the party.

(53,061 posts)The bar for impeachment must remain very very high for the simple reason that it will be used against us in the future.
It should not be rushed but only pursued when there is a substantial bipartisan consensus.
Alternatively we can make the 2018 elections an "impeachment referral" and with a landslide win exercise it then.
Impeachment is not something that can be achieved with a bare or simple majority.

(404 posts)It requires a 2/3 threshhold in the Senate to fully oust the president, but he is still impeached. If the GOP can refer to Clinton as an impeached president for deeds that are dwarfed by Trump's Russian association in heisting the presidency, then we don't live in a country of law anymore.

(53,061 posts)1) O Donnell was talking about the 25th amendment not impeachment, which would be carried out by the cabinet and only appealed to Congress.
2) a lot of people are advocating an early impeachment and this is a terrible idea as it will make it a commonplace. Impeachment must be held to such a high standard that it meets "high crimes etc." and not a political reversal of an election. If it is the latter then it can be used against us as well.

(404 posts)"Impeachment" is probably the most mis-used word when it comes to political actions. Most people (particularly Repugs) think that impeachment itself is the entire act of removing a disgraced politician from office, when it is merely a component of it. In fact it is a simple component, but it is used more for political show of force.
(I would recommend that anytime the president is a Republican, and the House is majority Democrat, that they ALWAYS impeach the president as a matter of rule, not as an exception, because Republican policies are anti-humanist. Such an impeachment would secure the House member's reputation with his/her/hir progressive base, and make it unlikely that a GOP ingrate can ever be elected in that district again. But I digress.)
The 25th Amendment, though, would require a consensus upon people whom, ostensibly, are closest to the president in the first place, which means they aren't normal people, but crazed fanatics of their own right. Fat chance seeing any of those reprobates even considering a presidential eject button.
