Here's the tweet:
122 vicious prisoners, released by the Obama Administration from Gitmo, have returned to the battlefield. Just another terrible decision!
He took the 122 number from a Fox News broadcast, but he assumed the prisoners were released by the Obama admin, when in fact it was the Bush admin.
Of those confirmed, 113 were released by former President George W. Bush and nine were released by Obama.

The disturbing thing is that Trump lying in these tweets doesn't really seem to matter to his fans.

With Trump, there's no such filter - straight from Fox/Breitbart/wherever to his tiny mind to his fingers and onto Twitter and the wider world.
And, of course, He can't be wrong - He's the God-Emperor - so His fans and sycophants have to contort reality horribly to bend it to His will.
I'm obviously not going to defend him, but this particular instance probably can't be classed as a lie. It's yet another example of his incurious kneejerk ignorance.

(4,834 posts)He IS his biggest fan. Like all his other fans, he simply repeats the lies streaming 24/7 from Fox News.
I happened to watch about 30 minutes of Fox the other evening and I can say that together with the other RW media, they have polluted the debate in the country and there will be no relief until they are taken down.
Trump is your Fox News watching brother-in-law sitting in the most powerful position in the world.

(17,276 posts)He died in 2010 at 82. He'd watch Fox from his recliner, and get all fired up about Kerry or Obama going to ruin the country, and then get on email and go on a tirade about it. Over and over! I didn't need to watch Fox to know what stuff they were shoveling that day!
He didn't like the McCain/Palin ticket though: "an old man and a woman!!", he said.
If he were alive today, he'd be thrilled as anyone by the current occupant. A person just like him, old and cranky!

(10,252 posts)I'll be 70 next week. I have heart disease and tire easily, plus my hip hurts. You bet I'm cranky. I hope that you live long enough to get old and cranky, because if you do - you'll learn that old age is not for sissies. I'm still sharp as a tack with a near genius IQ, well educated and well read. Being old and cranky is not Trump's problem. Being stupid, narcissistic, and a pathalogical liar are his problems. Plus he has a history of laundering money for really bad guys.

(8,361 posts)the threat of a lawsuit. He has impunity except for impeachment, that is the only way and once he is impeached he is then open to lawsuits of slander and libel. I despise Pence too but we're going to need a legal means to get rid of both of them and soon. Trump's lies are so obviously about setting up a ruse to shield him from damaging evidence that may come from the investigations that are on the way. His only hope is to keep his base believing him instead of any proof the investigations bring to light.

(8,361 posts)He would or could be president, but think about it. The process of impeachment is damaging and although they'd technically be in power, we should be able to win seats in 2018 and they'll have even less power. I will take those odds over what we have now. They're a dangerous party so I think we fight them with everything we have.

(17,276 posts)They had a feature about a couple in Arkansas who have a horse ranch and voted for #45. Asked about his plans to raise tariffs, which would hurt them, they just replied that if Trump thought it was good for the country, then they would go along with it.
In other words, he's their Daddy and whatever he says, goes! And he wouldn't lie, would he, so no need to fact-check! True authoritarians.

(8,013 posts)like the lie about Obama wiretaps in trump tower. They can easily jump on board about believing that. I had a FB friend who posted a link to a RW story about Obama wiretapping others, so why not trump too? It must be true, they said... who would doubt it?

(1,822 posts)its that they dont believe anything is truth outside the right wing bubble. everything else is just "liberal spin" from the liberal media. the truth only gets out there through those websites and fox news. its really scary when you think about it. even if you bring facts it wont matter b/c they have chosen not to believe anything that isnt from a source they trust, which is only right wing sources.

Partisan politics is part of our system. I expect there to be a little bit of Republicans backing up a Republican president. That's logical. That's how work gets done. Lord knows I looked the other way when Clinton was fibbing about his dalliance is and Obama was going Whole Hog on deporting undocumented workers.
But they're backing up someone now who's a blatant and unnuanced liar. Someone who uses fascist techniques and inspires racist violence and racist administrative overkill within the executive branch departments. Republicans today are quite simply putting party ahead of country. That's inexcusable
