But then, he spoke less than glowingly of Donnie...

(3,335 posts)I almost choked from laughing when I read that. You made my day.
It's going to be a long 4 years. Our only hope is to continue to do things that make him angry with the hopes that he'll eventually have a heart attack, or a stroke. At age 70, it's our only hope. Justice Dept investigations could last for years and I'll probably have a stroke first from the anxiety of knowing that every day I wake up and that man's still in the White House.

...there's some of the same skepticism of this missive from Ramsey Talks among journalists and immigration law experts, right now. I'd watch Rosa Hwang @journorosa Senior Producer, CTV National News for any update or clarification.

(62,444 posts)The US Office of "Travel Privileges"?
Since when does anyone get an advance courtesy call about placement on a no-fly list or passport revocation?
bigtree
(86,005 posts)Important to note: Mr. Khan hasn't said why his "travel privileges" are under review. When we reached out to him, he had no further comment.

Until he responds with some evidence, yes, you can characterize it as an unsupported claim.
The burden of proof rests with Ramsey Talks and CTV.
jberryhill
(62,444 posts)"Who" is a much simpler question, and this claim does not answer that one either.
HoneyBadger
(2,297 posts)Does not say US. Or could be NEXUS, the Canadian Trusted Traveler endorsement. I have NEXUS and they can pull that privilege in the blink of an eye, as one (me) that has brought an apple across the border can lay claim to.....
jberryhill
(62,444 posts)Again, which of these entities make courtesy calls to say that their "travel privileges are under review"?
HoneyBadger
(2,297 posts)No review whatsoever. Though an appeal is available.

(62,444 posts)Can you explain to me which US agency is in charge of "travel privileges" or what that even means?

(2,297 posts)Paid a fee, waited a while, had several interviews and was vetted to speed through border control in a number of countries including US, Mexico, and Canada. My particular credentials were managed by Canada. If you fly into JFK and see 400 people waiting to clear customs, and then notice a short line of about 20 people moving quickly through, that was my line.
Privileges !
Two way street, as you can lose them for trivial reasons.
Was driving into Canada and forgot an apple laying in the back seat. Was not even my apple. You have to declare all plants and food. Border control immediately rescinded my credentials.
Can reapply after 6 months. Application takes about a year. No guarantee that I will ever be "trusted" again.

(618 posts)That's all it ever does. The "reporting" it's doing now is repeating the story in the OP.

(41,990 posts)They have a decent track record. We'll certainly see soon.
jberryhill
(62,444 posts)What US government agency makes a courtesy call to say your "travel privileges" (whatever the fuck that means) are "under review"?
There is nothing whatsoever in this story that identifies any action by any agency of the US government.
Raw Story may be "reliably reporting" what they were told, but it is absolutely clear that no real reporter has written this story, since there is zero information about what, specifically, the claim is.

(13,050 posts)because he spoke out against agent orange, or because he is muslim? The man is a US citizen. What right does the trump administration have to review his travel rights? If i were Mr. Khan i'd sue & make sure it goes all the way up to the US supreme court so this doesn't happen to any other citizen. If Mr. Khan can be singled out, what prevents other citizens from being singled out?

(13,877 posts)but they have to get re-elected in this one. The rats are fleeing the sinking Yacht Trump. The world is laughing. I believe (fingers crossed) that sane and grown-up Republicans do not want to toddle into war with the Toddler in Chief, but they'd best start explaining why to their constituents.

(45,484 posts)Since being a US citizen for many decades doesn't matter anymore. If the powers that be want to punish you, you will be punished.
But they also detained Sidd Bikkanaver, the NASA scientist who was born in the USA to a white mother. Being half white wasn't enough for Obama either. It matters how one looks.

(19,965 posts)KHIZR KHAN EVENT CANCELLATION
Late Sunday evening Khizr Khan, an American citizen for over 30 years, was notified that his travel privileges are being reviewed. As a consequence, Mr. Khan will not be traveling to Toronto on March 7th to speak about tolerance, understanding, unity and the rule of law. Very regretfully, Ramsay Talks must cancel its luncheon with Mr. Khan. Guests will be given full refunds.
Mr. Khan offered his sincere apologies to all those who made plans to attend on March 7th. He said: "This turn of events is not just of deep concern to me but to all my fellow Americans who cherish our freedom to travel abroad. I have not been given any reason as to why. I am grateful for your support and look forward to visiting Toronto in the near future.

This man's son died trying to save the life of americans of many races in an ultimate sacrifice for ameriKKKa and.... This is a perfect example of how really mean spirited a virulent minority of white nationalist (consciously known or not)racists are that have taken over in this country.
Ryan, mcconnell and the rest cruz et al., just as hateful yet sneakier and more slimy in their approach to the issues that these openly racist white nationalists are pushing now. Sick, sick mother*******!!!!!!!!!!!!

(20,208 posts)which isn't on Trump/Bannon's "extreme vetting" list.
Fit me for a tin foil hat if you like, but it seems like Trump/Bannon WANTS a terrorist act on US soil, another 9/11, so he'll get support for increased military spending and taking away our civil rights. Don't forget, the Patriot Act was written BEFORE 9/11. They just needed a trigger.

If they yanked his passport so that he couldn't leave the country, or refused to let him back in, you'd see an uprising like you've never seen before.

(520 posts)You don't even need a passport to get INTO Canada. I'm not sure how, if he has a passport and is a US citizen, he could be stopped from returning from Canada. This story smells funny.

This story has been around for several hours. If it's true, he should post a copy of the letter he received from Homeland Security.
