Question.. Can a President be brought up on charges for purposely lying to the Public

He keeps doing it and getting away with it..but can he be held accountable for starting a riot in a theater by yelling fire (when none is there) so to speak..?? This thing he does is NOT entertainment but dangerous to the welfare of the country..

and on the books, who would do it?

Nobody, the Russians and the white nationalists have taken over.

We kid ourselves if we think any of this will actually be resolved judiciously and in favor of what best serves the American people.

The ONLY chance of that is several VIP republicans like McCain and Graham have to come out and strong and demand independent investigation and prosecution of treason.

So far, a sitting president has never been prosecuted for any crime, and most legal scholars believe a president would have to be impeached and removed from office before he can be prosecuted. https://www.forbes.com/sites/insider/2016/11/09/can-a-president-trump-be-prosecuted-based-upon-allegations-of-past-misconduct/#4b80ae6491bf

Remember, Ford pardoned Nixon after he (Nixon) resigned because otherwise he probably would have been (and IMO, should have been) prosecuted.

Will not prosecute their predecessors for fear they will themselves be prosecuted. That, I believe, is why Obama did not go after Bush jr.

Unfortunately, any president can lie to the public with impunity. Every president lies to the public.

Unlike, lying under oath in court or lying to a federal investigator - which are crimes.

So no, a charging authority wouldn't be able to file criminal charges.
