For the politically engaged, yes, we're probably spending more time than necessary talking about the bizarre performance art spectacle that is Trump's Twitter feed, but it's not like we are unaware of what Congress is up to. Meanwhile, he is also creating and galvanizing opposition among the large part of the population that stops paying attention to politics the day after Election Day.
Imagine if we were all clapping for Jeb. He wouldn't be picking fights with the media and the government apparatus, or stoking racial resentments, and would have likely managed an orderly transition and Cabinet. The Republican Congress would still be doing its dirty work, only without having to constantly field uncomfortable questions about Russia and investigations, and without having to flee their own town halls.
Plus, several of Trump's signature platform items, like trade protectionism, are completely at odds with the goals of the Randroids that are running the economic agenda of the Republican Congress.
