My biggest fear after 911 was not another attack. It was something much more sinister.

My biggest fear was the american people would give up their values, their decency and commonsense and instead let fear take over their lives. It has happened. The american people are following fear. This is how great nations destroy themselves. From the inside. Our civil war is a perfect example of this. Most people of the south were victims of fear. Most people in the south did not own slaves. What were they fighting for. Mostly lies and fear.

The build up to the Iraq war was based on fear and lies. The attacks on obama, obamacare, all based on fear and lies.

While this crosses party lines, the republican party has adopted fear as a major part of their platform. They use fear and lies to get out the vote.

Trumps campaign was completely based on fear and lies. Vote for me and i will fix all your fears and make america great again. He used fear to attack everyone.

All of the crazy, insane shit we are seeing now is a result of fear. It is the face of fear.

Liberals and moderates need to dispense with this incessant need to bend over backwards in order to be "fair" to Republicans.

We are in an ideological war with liars. Nuance is for policy. We need to *speak* with conviction.

But also hate. How many fires were stoked in the name of hate during the election. Muslim ban, build the wall, lock her up and on and on it goes. Republicans like simple little chants to get their point across and it worked brilliantly unfortunately. I do believe hate and fear go together. And that lead to anger. How many angry Trump humpers bought into the whites being victimized mantra? How many are reveling in the premise of being vindicated? It's insane.

I envisioned the government suspending certain civil liberties in the name of security and people going along with it out of fear. My thoughts were never about another attack. Fear works and tyrants have used it throughout history to control their subjects.
