Why is "sought to disrupt" all over MSM? "Disrupted" is the correct

Word that should be used. The Russians sought to disrupt and succeeded. Hence, the active verb is the right word to use.

... whereas "disrupted" can indicate an unintentional disruption. But I am more of the opinion that it is because the media prefer circumlocution whenever possible.
