Matt Lauer: "I mean...it just goes to this overwhelming idea that there is some kind of unusual contact or connection between the Trump administration and Russia; this story does nothing to help that."

Mark Halperin: "Look, why does this matter to real people? Because there has to be some understanding of what happened in the last election, some confidence that there wasn't any inappropriate contact with Russia. I think the White House should, and perhaps will, welcome an investigation that makes this into the open. The suspicion people have, though, is why don't they want an investigation, because there's more there that they don't want to come out."

but, the GOP gets to do anything it wants. Rules and Ethics do not apply to them.

Jonathan Karl said that ever since he asked Trump point-blank about his allegation of absolutely no Russian contacts, Trump personally has not made another blanket assertion about no contacts, signaling to Karl that undeniably were contacts (as reported in NY Times article)

(The only glossing over was done by Cecilia Vega's brief parroting of WH talking points, reminiscent of how she was always the one on ABC parroting the right wing Hillary email talking points)
