If you were suspected of doing something bad but you didn't do it,

wouldn't you gladly invite an investigation, and wouldn't you supply every scrap of evidence you had so you could prove you hadn't done the bad thing and thus remove the cloud of suspicion once and for all?

I would misdirect, falsify, lie outright, and gather a lot of people around me to act as surrogates and lie on my behalf.
