A willingness to consider facts and changed circumstances in avoiding foolish consistency shows a certain breadth of mind.

There's also foolish inconsistency: Being inconstant for insufficient or bad reasons. Flip-flopping when circumstances change and new information comes to light is good; flip-flopping for political expediency or because otherwise you might be humiliated is an indication of weak character.
