These new state laws intended to crack down on peaceful protesters are going to cost the states

and local governments 10's of millions of dollars in lawsuit payouts. Criminalizing 1st amendment activity never works out well for the criminalizers.

They tried this in Wisconsin with people singing in the State capital. Ask the governor here if he likes paying lawsuits for unconstitutional arrests and simply interfering with the constitutionally lawful activities of peaceful protesters.

targets of law enforcement by those in power, it behoves all to remember that power shifts. Always. How would the right wing nuts like to be arrested at CPAC just for attending. Once you start down the slippery slope of trying to crush descent you have almost no chance of success.

I suspect no SCOTUS combination would gut the 1st amendment in this fashion. Even our crooked court here in Wisconsin won't go there. They would if they thought they could get away with it.

The notion of applying RICO type law to protesters is really a non starter. For many reasons. One, how do you arrest process and try 100,000 peaceful protesters? That's the number we had here in Madison for the woman's march. When the governor had all those singers arrested in the capital each demanded a trial, that too ended up being a non starter for the government. This is simply untenable on several levels. Not the least of which, it's simply impractical.

The harder these conservatives squeeze, the more who slip away from them.

I can't see Roberts going down this road, and I think he will try to keep some daylight between the SC and trump. Otoh, the fascist wing will be pushing hard to cement as much of their odious agenda as possible. Criminalizing peaceful protests would be near the top of their dream list.

Are Kansas and Illinois still about to go under due to short-sighted policies?

Has North Carolina rescinded its stupid bathroom bill yet? That's cost them millions and they don't seem to care.

The judicial branch will reverse this but the cheapskate unAmerican bozos who trash our principles simply don't give a damn. Their personal lives are too empty for them to care what happens to anyone else.

no one knows who has it or if it's recoverable. Because? No one is looking for it. And,oh the paperwork for it has, surprise, gone missing too. Gee, wonder if is the greatest theft of tax payer dollars in state history? As long as republicans are in charge, no ones wallet or purse is safe.
